ABOUT HTA

Happy to Act Drama Academy (HTA) was founded by Joanne Hammer in 2015. With a strong belief in the transformative power of performance arts, Joanne set out on a mission to create a nurturing environment where students can flourish and thrive.
She is Head of Drama at the Latymer School, London N9 where the classes are held and is now joined by Sophie Hammer and Dominic Charman as facilitators. Joanne is also passionate about drama being inclusive to all and  welcomes students of all abilities and needs.

Sophie Hammer
(BA HONS), dipABRSM

Sophie trained at East 15 Acting School. Her experience working with children spans from facilitating Youth Theatre classes, Performing Arts classes in Primary schools and performing with companies such as Chicken Shed and Jellyfish Theatre in children’s shows. She previously trained in ballet, tap and modern from the age of 3, competeing successfully on a national level and at the London Colliseum and Royal Albert Hall. She also holds an ABRSM Diploma in Classical Singing. 

Her aim is to create a space where the focus is on self-expression as this undoubtedly encourages a healthy mindset. 

Sophies’s ethos also lies in body-positivity; something which she aims to promote in her language, attitude and exercises in order to plant the seeds of a  healthy body image and mind.

 

Joanne Hammer
(BA HONS) PGCE

Jo trained at The Royal School of Speech and Drama. She has been working successfully in the entertainment and leisure industry throughout her career including working professionally in television and theatre, on board cruise ships and in the music industry for CBS records. Jo has been teaching Drama and Theatre studies at The Latymer School since 2004 where she is now the Head of Drama.

She is passionate about facilitating Drama, Music and Dance and was inspired to create this youth theatre from her fond memories of The Enfield Youth Theatre and The National Student Theatre Company, which she attended as a young adult. Jo’s intention is to create and establish a local community youth theatre where young people can hone their acting skills, explore ideas and socialise to create and develop innovative theatre.

 

Dominic Charman
(BA HONS)

Dominic has worked professionally as actor for the past 11 years appearing on both stage and screen.

He graduated from East 15 Acting school in 2018 and has been working with young people facilitating drama workshops since.

As a director he has worked with new writers with performances at The Kings Head and The Royal Court. He is passionate about Shakespeare and giving young people access to theatre.
